One of the most common uses for a Mag+ Designd Multi Pro app is to distribute documents within a company. But what if you want to do so while securely controlling who can see which documents?
In this how-to guide we’ll show a simple way to control access to documents within an app using the tools in Mag+ Publish and our Appthenticate system for app authentication. The end result will use a login window, as shown above, to grant access to a new document only to known staff.
Here’s the starting point for our app. It’s a Mag+ Designd Multi Pro app, built for iPad and iPhone, and shown here on the iPad. This app has been signed using an Apple Enterprise certificate, so it can run on the iPhone or iPad of any member of staff, but is not listed in the App Store. One document is visible in the library: a 2016 annual report.
Here’s how it looks in Mag+ Publish, with just that one public document published:
Today we’re going to add a 2017 Staff Update document. This is confidential, so we want it to be visible only to certain known users who have logged in.
The first step here is adding a new “issue” in Mag+ to contain the document:
Note that in the the “Payment” section, under “Entitlement Category”, we’ve chosen “Subscription API“. This is very important, as it tells Mag+ that the document should be completely hidden from view until it is specifically unlocked by a user management system. After adding a title, cover image and so on, we save this information.
